Download Latest version of smcFanControl for Mac OS X. SmcFanControl is a quite curious application that allows you to chane the speed of the different fans inhabiting your computer br br It allows you to set the RPM Revolutions per minute for each one so you can reduce the temperature inside the computer br br That task is usually done by the computer automatically but in case you think it is.

Saved my 2010 15-inch MacBook Pro! I was overheating to the point of shutdown, but my fans remained at idle speed at all times, even after SMC and NVRAM resets.

Macs Fan Control worked beautifully with High Sierra and Snow Leopard (dual-boot disk). The app lets you monitor the temperature of all sensors (MBP 6.2 has 12) and then control the fan speeds. The app allowed me to discover that the GPU diode temp sensor was only working intermittently, which likely explains why the SMC stopped controlling the fans.
Now I can control each fan independently with a working sensor of your choosing or set them manually. The app also lets you revert to auto mode, which returns control to the SMC, which is of no use in my case. On a side-note, I also found that replacing the thermal grease on the GPU and CPUs helped a lot (used Arctic MX-4).
Can you hear your MacBook's fan whirring a bit too loud? This means that your Mac is overheating and that you are putting too much strain on it. This can be caused by applications that use up a lot of your computer's resources or is simply the result of having your Mac on for too much time. Fan Control lets you adjust your fan's speed and thresholds to adapt it best to your Mac's current temperature. Thanks to sliders, you can set the lower and upper thresholds and base speed. A graph on the right of the interface shows you the speed to temperature ratio.
If you move the different settings around, you'll see it adapts, never passing the original automatic fan speed. By Anonymous Beware of this app! It can damage your SMC! Seemed like a nice concept and it really kept my temperatures down on my rMBP up until I b ooted into Windows. Windows 8 started acting strange; menus would lag, Metro would freeze, fans wouldn't come on under gaming, and I wouldn't be able to connect to WiFi. I couldn't figure out what the problem was, so I just tried uninstalling this app, and Windows started behaving normally again!
However, even after multiple SMC resets, now smcFanControl (which I used prior to this app) doesn't change the fan speed, which makes me inclined to think that my SMC is permanently altered. So, it's a nice concept (I really liked that you can adjust the temps vs.
Fan speed graph) but in practice it really doesn't work. And now, the older app I used doesn't work and the fans don't speed up as fast, so my SMC is damaged. Beware of this app. Reviewed on February 2, 2013.
By Anonymous Awesome. When i first downloaded this and installed it, i thought it was a virus because i couldnt find where it installed to but after i found it in the preferences and used it, i loved it. Instead of going into the 70's when i play games, it stays in the 50's (c) thank you so much for this app, it really kept me from being worried about my mac mini's temp. Oh and btw, the mac mini 2.5 ghz can run games max setting with antialiasing 16x and anisotropic filtering maxed out.
Pros: kept my mac cool after playing some hardcore games. Cons: couldn't find it at first so i thought it was a virus reviewed on December 29, 2011.
